NICU Day 12

Day 12 was yet another fantastic day for Jasper. Though he really had no setbacks once he got over the hurdle of getting his lung healed up and getting off the vent, they really took it slow in getting him prepped to go home. Too slow if you ask us! But of course it was all for his good and the doctors just wanted to be very careful given his very delicate start.

Because he was so healthy and such a big boy compared to the rest of the NICU babies, he really won over the affections of the nurses. Since he had gotten his voice back, he made up for lost time and was not shy about voicing his displeasure about whatever he might be unappy about. Because of this, and because he was so mobile and no longer needed to be on a million monitors, he often got passed around and flirted with whatever nurses were on duty. More than once, we walked in to find him in the very willing and happy arms of a nurse.

He had his carseat test on Day 12 which is the very last step before a baby can come home. They have to ensure his levels stay good when placed in a carseat so they can tolerate a new situation and the stress that comes along with it. As you can see from the picture below, he was pretty stressed about it -- he slept through the whole thing! He passed with flying colors and we knew that if he passed then he would be coming home the next morning once the doctor made rounds and gave the green light. We were so excited!

8:00pm - Headed to our last evening NICU visit -- in the snow! We are SO thankful to ALL our friends who have graciously given up an evening away from home to come sit at our house we could go have time with Jasper. It means so much to us, you will never know!
