Fun With Mimi and Poppy

Mimi always makes sure to have these glasses at Christmas. When you put them on and look at the Christmas tree lights, you see all sorts of silly and/or pretty images.

Having coffee in bed.

Doesn't this look like the face of love??

Mimi will fix that scowl - tickling Harper with her scarf.

ahh - the perfect thumbsucking tool!

Showing Mimi how well she eats mango out of her strainer.

Presents

We all got what we wanted for Christmas - time together! But there were a few gifts exchanged as well. I'll continue posting pictures of things as we use them, but here's a few to start off with.

Mimi got Harper a Fancy Nancy doll and book. I'd only heard of Fancy Nancy in passing before, but Mimi knew it was something Harper had to have. Poppy thinks Fancy Nancy looks a lot like Mimi.
The teddy bear! I'll be posting a separate blog about this, but Poppy picked out this huge pink teddy bear for Harper himself.

Poppy and Mimi got Grandpa a bunch of lotto tickets because Grandpa enjoys the scratchers and giving them as gifts - He won $5!

Poppy's shirt (and Wylee). Priceless.

Mimi's apron. It says "Dachshunds are like potato chips. You can never have just one". Perfect!

Neimans!

My mom had seen a program on HGTV where they featured Christmas window displays in different department stores, and one of the featured stores was Neiman Marcus in Dallas. Needing an excuse to do some sightseeing, we headed downtown to go check them out. Mimi had also made a promise to get Harper a headband from Neimans to cover her bald head - but I won that battle and instead she settled on a funky pair of tights and some ballet slipper socks - both stinkin' adorable.

Poppy got bit by the Harper bug in a big way when he was here, and it was never more evident than when we were poking around Neimans looking at all the baby items. He had his eye on a rocking horse, but once he handed Harper the big pink teddy bear, it was all over. He actually ended up buying it without telling anyone - he wasn't going to let anyone stop him from getting it for her! I didn't take many, but here's a few pictures from the day.

"aaahh, I'm in Neimans!"

"And I did some shopping!"
"oh, look at that bear!"

"so soft and chewable!"
(at home later that night) "even the ribbon is perfect!"

Harper's First Christmas

My parents (Mimi & Poppy) flew in Christmas Day to celebrate Harper's first Christmas with us! It was the best present ever and we truly had a wonderful and memorable time.

I took this on the way to the airport. Harper's already worn out! We all wore red shirts and Santa hats as a family - so cute, aren't we? My mom was even handing out yummy sugar cookies to everyone in the airport to spread some Christmas cheer. She's so wonderful.

Here's Harper and I waiting to open presents.

Reindeer bib. The ears and antlers get soaked before anything else. Wonder why?

"I'm ready to start opening, Mom!"
"Hmm, the pile of presents and tissue paper looks mighty fun"
Making do with tissue.
"Mimi's sticks out her tongue just like I do!"

Harper's first stocking

Watching the Grinch for the first time! We think she kinda looks like Cindy Lou Who if Cindy Lou Who was bald.

This onesie says "KISS ME (five dollars for the first kiss, 2 dollars for each additional kiss. taxes may apply) She'd be a very rich girl if we were actually following the rules!

Merry Christmas!

Mimi and Poppy Are Coming for Christmas!

Guess who's excited about that??

Christmas PJs

Harper decided to show off a few tricks in her Christmas PJs.

Reading a Christmas book.

Climbing up on the wrapping paper storage bins. She'll be very sad to find these have now (finally) been put away.

Meeting Santa

Santa was at church this past Sunday! We didn't manage to ever make it to a mall or other location where Santa might have been, so we were delighted to get a picture with him. Harper was content to stick her hand into his beard as far as she could, but thankfully we managed to not have her rip it off his face.

We also took a few pictures of the family just for fun. Harper wanted to show off her new outfit!

Subliminal Messages to Grandma

The bib:

The onesie:

In truth, this should read "Grandma AND Grandpa" since Grandpa has been known to get Harper whatever her little heart desires. But we'll just pretend. :)

Family Christmas Parties 2008

Here are a few pictures from the two family Christmas parties we had on Friday and Saturday. A great time was had by all and it was so fun to see all the family again. Of course, since it's Harper's first Christmas, she had a great time meeting all of this extended family, most of which for the first time. We can't wait until next year to do it all again!

Toys!

Harper is becoming much more independent these days and is quite happy to play by herself most times. We all enjoy the times she's in her walker as she zooms around the house inspecting every nook and cranny, then seeing what we're all up to, making sure to keep tabs on us. But she is also enjoying sitting in the living room playing with all her toys. For the past week we've had the wrapping paper containers in the living room which has given her great joy as she climbs up on them. She's quite the expert now and has progressed to holding on to the couch, then letting go to see if she can balance (she can't).
This toy basket has gotten much fuller since we took these pictures as we've had a few Christmas parties where she got several fun new things to play with. It also means it's heavier and can withstand her pulling herself up on it without it tipping over (most times). These are a few pictures Daddy captured as she was exploring what the basket had to offer. Such a ham.
