Happy Father's Day

We've had a great father's Day weekend. In this household, we usually end up celebrating at least a day early due to the various work schedules - namely Jon's. But no one really seems to mind. I know I don't. It usually just makes the celebration last a little longer.

After a morning trip out to Weatherford to see about a new car (no, we didn't end up getting one), we fed Harper lunch then packed up a bag to take to the pool. Now, next month will mark two years of us living in our house. Have we ever once been to the pool? Nope. We moved in on July 19th 2007, and I think the rest of that summer was spent just trying to settle ourselves. I'm actually not really sure why we didn't go to the pool, but we just didn't.

Last summer here in Texas there was a big outbreak of the Crypto Virus. Now, you can check out the link if you'd really like to know what causes Crypto, but I can shortcut it for you and tell you that babies really should wear swim diapers in pools, and that parents should definitely keep kids out of pools who might be sick. Because of the Crypto outbreak, our Neighborhood HOA had the brilliant idea to ban all children in diapers from our pool, swim diapers or not. If you were not potty trained, you could not go swimming. Our neighborhood, just like most, is filled with children of all ages, many who are still in diapers. For those families with several children, they couldn't even go to the pool together because babies weren't even allowed in the pool area. Talk about ridiculous. Needless to say, there was a huge outcry from the neighborhood. If we pay our dues, why can't the Association properly chlorinate the pool?

Well, thankfully, this year the ban has been lifted! Babies in swim diapers are once again allowed to play. So play we did! Harper absolutely loved it. First we went into the kiddie pool to let her hold our hands and walk and splash. She loved the dunking buckets and she definitely felt brave in the water as she let go of our hands mulitiple times thinking "I got this..." We then went into the big pool and she had a great time floating, bouncing, and being tossed in the air.

Her laughs, smiles and the all-around thrill of being there, made it such a wonderful time for us three. She loved experiencing the feeling of the water, and Jon and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing it all through her eyes. Instead of trying to squeeze the pool in around our schedule, I think this summer we will be arranging our schedule around the pool. What a fun summer already!

Last night we enjoyed a wonderful BBQ dinner with Jon's parents. Jon grilled up some steak and made his famous homemade guacamole, which didn't disappoint as always. I baked up some potatoes and put a salad together. I also made a batch of Ro*Tel and Velveeta. This was a new creation I had first tried at Harper's birthday. And, oh my goodness, what a wondrous creation that is. Yesterday was my first time making it and also my first encounter with Velveeta. It wasn't anything like I was expecting it to be, and that is quite a strange "food". It was a great spread and I became all together completely stuffed. Nice way to end the day. :)

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there. Thank you for all that you do. I hope this day finds you appreciated and blessed beyond all measure. And thank you to our Heavenly Father, the One who loves us beyond all compare.

X-Games

We had a great time last Saturday at the X-Games, which was put on by our church. Jon competed with our Lifehouse (home group) against all the other Lifehouses in some silly events. The purpose being of course to have a good time and hang out with all those we might not usually see or meet.

This is my favorite picture from the day. This was the hands-free hula hoop: getting it up and over you and your partner without using your hands. Jon thought his mouth worked pretty well.

This was the team jump rope competition. No, this method below didn't work.

Harper and I had a great time sitting on the sidelines, cheering everyone on. She enjoyed chewing on Reagan's toys, though she had her own fun and perfectly fine toys. I didn't get permission from Reagan's mom to post her picture, but rest assured, she is too cute for words and about 6 months younger than Harper. They are buds on Sunday morning in the nursery and live in the next neighborhood over from us. We predict they'll be great friends growing up.

High Fivin'

We haven't really tried to get Harper to give high fives, so it was quite funny to us when we tried once and she did it. She became very excited about this new trick, so we of course had to film it. At times she became so excited she went right to clapping, skipping right over the high five part.

Sometimes with babies, you never know what "tricks" they're going to retain the next days thereafter. However Harper is continuing to faithfully smack a good one whenever we ask, so it looks like this one's sticking.

I've been battling with Blogger for a week to get this video to post. I had to finally give up and put it on youtube.

By the way, I purposely asked Jon to leave me out of this shot as I was lookin' a hot mess in my comfy clothes.

Two Snaps in Circle

It's no secret that I've been waiting to be able to put
any type of clip in Harper's hair.
So I bought these clips online.
They claimed to be able to hold even the tiniest amount of hair.
They were right.
Stayed great.
I was excited.
Harper didn't mind them either.
I knew she reminded me of something
but I couldn't place it exactly.
Then Mimi called.
She had seen the pictures and said they reminded her of something.
She was right.
It was exactly what I had been thinking but couldn't place.
It was this.

Anyone recall Damon Wayans
and his tiny hats (and bald head) in
Men on Films, the skit from In Living Color?
Harper is no longer wearing the clips.
Not until she has any amount of substantial hair anyway.
