Last Week of July 2008

Here's some pics from this past week. Our 2nd wedding anniversary is Tuesday, so I'll have some more to post then.

Harper in her "big chair". Only used as a necessity when I had to do all that cooking last Sunday. It didn't last long - she wasn't in the mood for TV apparently.

Sarge and Maggie's last playdate. :(

Huh?

Love this progression of moods daddy took pictures of as she was waking up.

The List

I'm off work for 4 days, so I've made myself a list of things I'd like to accomplish around the house in order to make good use of my time and to lighten my load a little bit.

The reason I'm off on Monday and Tuesday is because unfortunately Jane isn't feeling well. They thought it might be vertigo, but it's most likely an inner ear "infection" of some sort that is throwing off her equilibrium. Thankfully the MRI came back negative for anything more serious, and she's on the mend slowly but surely. This break for her gave me an easy opportunity to take a couple days off to spend with Harper... something I feel like I've been missing in just my Saturdays and Sundays.

Here's my list:
1. Get started back on listing my eBay stuff. Check!
2. Fix Jon's computer
3. Update Harper's baby book
4. Download some songs off iTunes that I've really been wanting
5. Update my navigation unit
6. Print my credit report

Most of this stuff has to be done on the computer, which is a coveted treat these days. But doing the eBay stuff was huge, and now that that's done, I feel so much better. It will be an ongoing thing since there's so much crap to list, but at least the big stuff is on there. Yesterday I also gave the house a good dusting and vacuuming, which I think it just becoming my usual Saturday morning, but that in itself felt like a huge accomplishment. Since I have 2 more days off than usual, I also don't have to rush to the grocery store this morning which is a huge relief.

Harper's sleep schedule also allowed me to watch a full uninterrupted church service online which you'll know how much I really needed if you read my blog here. It was just what I needed and I may even watch bits and pieces of 2nd and 3rd service too!

Fun with the neighbors!

Our next door neighbors the Kutzs are moving back to Florida this weekend. :( We're very sad to see them go, but happy because they're going to be much closer to their families. Sarge is also losing his girlfriend Maggie, but we've decided not to tell him ahead of time as there's not much worse than a depressed German Shepherd. Selfishly, we'd love them to stay and also have the Parkers move back too!!! Last night we all got together for a last hurrah, and it was the first time Harper got to hang out too.

Diana - absorbing the little girl feeling.

So sweet.
Hailey showing "Baby Harper" her baby.

Harper being "carried" to Christina by Hailey.

Love it! Christina and Harper. Hailey is never sure what to make of it when her Mommy holds Harper.

Noah actually asked if he could hold her! I managed to get one picture before Harper started crying and Noah quickly said "I think she wants her Mommy". Such a sweet boy. Love him.

We need a name!

I've decided our blog needs a name. I'm not very good with these kinds of things, so I'm reaching out to aaaalllll our faithful readers... haha, all five of you.

My friend Stephanie's blog is called "Leave it to Weaver". Cute, right? I noticed hers links to another one called "Keeping up with the Joneses". My first blog was called "What Would You Say" after a Dave Matthews Band song, and it fit pretty well since I just talked all about the really random things that happened to me - and Dave is pretty random.

So I figure there's gotta be a cute one that can be related to Hanes. The only thing I can come up with is "Hanes Her Way" but not sure I want to name it after underwear. Any suggestions? Winner gets something REALLY cool.... Or just a fun mention. ;)

OH! And I'll also take suggestions on a name for Harper's blog. Maybe HERS can be Hanes Her Way! Although the generic title of the blog is "baby hanes" so it could be open for either gender. I don't think our future son (yes I said it) would appreciate that name.

Harper's Dedication

This past Sunday Jon and I had Harper dedicated at church. She did really well and was actually kind of smiling and laughing up there. We don't have any pictures from the service but here's a few afterwards. I do have video and will post it soon! Of course we never all 3 looked good in the same picture so I had to post a few... Mom thinks I shouldn't ever show the one where Harper looks weird, but it's the only picture Jon and I looked normal in!

Pics

Here's a few pics from the last few days.

I put Harper in her first real out and about "outfit" for church last week. It was kind of an overcast day and I thought the jeans were just way too cute, even though they were still too big.

Just another carseat pic. I promise she's not in it 24/7 but she always seems to smile the best when I try to give her her paci, and I usually offer it to her when we're on our way out the door. I think she thinks it's a game.

Here's us on our walk the other night. Yes, we were brave and took both dogs with us, and it actually turned out okay! Wylee does pretty well if I hook his leash to the stroller, and Jon had Sarge duty, so it was a rather peaceful evening. Jon's not really Chinese - just exaggerating how bright the sun was that I made him face for the picture.

Pretty Girl

Here's Harper telling me how pretty she is:

Saturday Project #2

I posted about our Saturday project on the regular blog. I'm trying to keep this one focused on Harper. I realize sometimes I get off topic, but I'm going to try!

Happy Independence Day!

We had a great 4th of July. First of all, Jon and I got to spend the day together which, in itself, was the greatest treat of all. We don't get whole days anymore just hanging out. It's usually a few hours in the evenings where we're both running around like mad trying to get things done before bedtime. Even though we love his new schedule working days, I feel like I might even see him less now! Well, that's not possible, but still... When he gets home he's almost always got a bunch of school work to do, and I've always got a million things to get ready for the following day, plus dealing with the baby, and one of us is somehow fixing dinner and paying a millisecond of attention to the dogs. Dinners together hardly happen anymore, and if they do, I'm most likely eating one-handed while putting the baby to sleep. A night when dinner happens before 8:30pm is a miracle.

ALL THAT TO SAY - Friday was great. If we had done nothing, it would've been fine. But, as it goes, we did manage to get a few things done. We went to breakfast at a so-so place nearby where we had a coupon for $3.99 breakfast. I had the coupon special and he had the chicken fried steak which he said was the worst he'd ever had. blech. Jon realized he had been there before a llooooong time ago and remembered they had gigantic cinnamon rolls. I asked the waitress if they still served those and she said "not too often, but you can call ahead and see if we've got some before you come next time". Ummm.. yeah, no thanks. I can barely remember to brush my hair these days, let alone call ahead somewhere.

We then went to find me some new pants because I had a coupon (surprise, surprise!), and am shrinking out of some of my current pants and jeans. I found a few really cute pairs of capris on sale (score!) but they were my old size and way too big. I almost got them because they were so cheap but Jon talked me out of them and said "just because they're on sale doesn't make them right for you". blech. He's right. But I have such a hard time turning down a deal. Nevermind the fact that I probably wouldn't have worn them because they pretty float-y on me. So I got a pair of jeans capris and found a couple new pairs of black shoes. Yeah! For some reason my Crocs have started making my feet and ankles hurt after I've worn them all day. I think maybe it's because they got a little stretched out when I wore them while I was pregnant because my feet were so swollen, so now they don't fit as well??? I'm not sure. My first pair never did that too me. But anyway, Jon remarked last week that my Crocs looked "weird" with my outfit. I so normally don't care what they look like as long as they're comfortable (yes, I'm one of those people), but since they were making me hurt, I decided he was right. My new shoes are keeee-UTE and am so happy about them.

After that, Jon secretly wanted to take me to the Lady Golf store, and set the navigation system to take us there. But I gave him a look and he decided a better option would be to skip that. We got home and started prepping for the neighborhood picnic 4th of July celebration down at our pool. I made myself a sandwich, we packed a small cooler and I decorated Harper's stroller to be patriotic. One thing I realized as we were trying to get out the door was what every new parent realizes: how much CRAP it requires you to bring when you have a baby. Unbelievable. We walked (our first mistake) down to the pool and found a spot. We don't have a portable beach umbrella (our second mistake) and all the semi-shady spots were taken so we just plopped ourselves on the grass. I guess we were hoping that some shade would miraculously appear, but it never did. I think we lasted about 25 minutes total. It was sooooo HOT. Just enough time for Jon to eat a hot dog, me my sandwich, and us to witness one of the hula hooping competitions. That was enough. We probably would've enjoyed a dip in the pool, but our HOA just stopped allowing infants in diapers into the pool, so that was a no go.

We started the trek back home, which this time seemed unusually long. We trudged our way up the streets and eventually made it home before we melted into puddles. Ugh - so hot.
The rest of the day was pretty quiet. We watched a movie... well, Jon did. Harper and I took a nap on the couch together for most of it. A quick trip to the grocery store (I really wanted ice cream and figured we could treat ourselves), then a great bbq dinner (yes, I ate it one-handed), and firework-watching from our backyard!! From where we were, we could see probably 6 or 7 different shows - very cool!

I managed to take a few pictures of Harper to commemorate her first 4th. It was her 3-month birthday too! Here they are!

Harper in her bonnett Mimi bought for her. I felt she looked like a boy in her blue t-shirt so she needed to wear it all day so people would know she was a girl. She was TOO CUTE! This is also the first semi-smile I've captured in a picture.

During her morning nap, she wriggled around and found that face-down was most comfortable apparently. I was too scared to leave her like that, and we had to go anyway, so I woke her up and when I looked at her she had a red nose. Cracked me up.

Her shirt says "Little Firecracker" and was given to her by our neighbors the Kutzs. I find this picture rather ironic, as the firecracker had fizzled out.

And here's her stroller! There is a red feather boa around the front handle which Harper liked to tickle her feet on. I hung 3 big stars (red, silver and blue) around it and had a string of star garland I draped around the pushing handle.
