Happy Father's Day!

Father's Day was a fun event this year. Harper wound up sick (yet AGAIN!) on the Friday before, so all day Saturday was spent chilling at home, letting her rest. We were supposed to go out to lunch that day, but decided to postpone. She was feeling well enough to go for a visit on Sunday so we could give Papa his presents.

Daddy and his kiddos.

Three generations of Hanes men. (And Papa wearing one of his presents!)

Not a great picture since you can't see either of their faces, but I just love Harper's cute curly ponytail!

We did get to take Papa and Nana out to a belated Father's Day dinner this past Saturday, and it was super yummy and the kids were (almost) perfect angels! :)

I got Harper a play golf set as Jon's Father's Day gift from her. I knew it would be a time of mutual fun for them. Jon's gift from me came a few days late -- lots of MEAT from Omaha Steaks. :)

Happy Father's Day, 2010!

Sharing Siblings

Harper snuck over to Jasper while he was getting some stretching floor time and snagged the tag on the corner to suck her thumb with. She loves tags (she finds them on ANYTHING!) and she usually only sucks her thumb when she's tired or scared.

I glanced over and saw this, and found it to be a shining example how well they can share. :)

Splash Pad

Today was a busy Saturday for us. We are finally all relatively healthy (again), which was a relief because we had 2 birthday parties to go to! The first party was at a brand new splash pad that just opened nearby. Splash pads are great because they allow your kids to run around and play in the water, but there's no worry of them not knowing how to swim because there are no pools. I am so excited to know it's here!

It's no secret Harper loves the water, so she had a wonderful time gettin' wet. She finally got to wear the adorable polka dot suit and matching hat Nana got her for her birthday. Jon had to work, so I was by myself with both kids at the party, which limited my ability to get in and play with her since I had Jasper slung around me. She was a little hesitant at first, kind of staying at the little fountains for a while. But eventually she worked up the nerve to get more wet and make her way to the "middle" where there's a big orange wheel to turn. I took the video when she got brave enough to make it to the wheel. It was so cute. I look forward to going back!

Our second birthday party was at a local climb and bounce play area. It was absolutely crazy in there with so many kids! Harper got good and tuckered out and loved it there too. Unfortunately I forgot to take my camera in with me :( But here's the pics from the fun in the water.

Fun Stuff with Harper

A few weeks ago we went to my (new) company's annual picnic. It was blazing hot unfortunately, but we managed to stick around for a while before calling it a day. The best part of the day, according to Harper, was the petting zoo. She was a little timid around some of the animals, and didn't want any of them eating out of her hand, though Daddy was trying to show her how it was done:

She loved how soft the bunnies were:

There were tons of animals, as you can see. Harper mostly liked looking at the little goats and pigs. In fact, she got so involved in only looking at the smaller animals that she was caught totally off-guard when a donkey walked right up to her. She looked up, and it startled her so much, she fell backwards and didn't want to go near it again.

One of the little goats tried to eat her dress! Thank goodness Daddy was right there to save it.

I was folding laundry, and as Harper loves to do, she was helping me "fluff" each item of clothing. For some reason, she took one of Daddy's pair of athletic shorts and put it around her shoulders. It gave me a good giggle, and I had to snap a picture of her "cape".

Last weekend we were all healthy enough to get out and about. Saturday we went to KellerFest and had a good time seeing friends and going on rides. It was absolutely boiling out there though, and Mommy forgot the camera. boo! She went on her first Ferris Wheel ride and seemed to enjoy it more as the ride went on and she could wave at Mommy.
Sunday we blew up an inflatable pool for her to play in. She jumped right in even though the water was fairly chilly since it was straight from the hose. She absolutely loved every moment of it, and we'll be keeping the pool ready to go all summer long for what I'm sure will be hours of entertainment.

Hippo Friend

Sometimes we have to improvise at our house. Having two kids means you never have enough arms and hands to take care of everything. You find multiple uses for everyday things and you get creative.

Which means Jasper often hangs out in the bathroom sink while Harper gets a bath.

Yes, it's true. I use the sink as a creative baby holder. He seems like to like it just fine. And he's recently made a new friend while hanging out in the sink. Since Harper has been potty training, I got her her very own special soap to use to wash her hands. It's a hippo and the nose blinks for 20 seconds to signal how long you should scrub for.

Jasper thinks Mr. Hippo is a pretty interesting looking fellow, and loves to stare and smile at him. Mommy thinks this is great as it keeps him entertained while getting his sister clean. It's a win/win!
